GO CALL YOUR MOM
MY LIFE’S PASSION PROJECT (it can be yours, too)
What is this thing? In 2019, my dad died. Since then, I’ve been calling my mom every day. This is a permanent practice that has made my life more meaningful and connected. I now know her story, which I’ve used elements from to incorporate into a pair of sneakers I made for her. Now, it’s less about making sneakers and more about spreading the message of calling moms.
Go Call Your Mom is dedicated to getting men to call their moms because American men are facing a significant crisis characterized by higher suicide rates, mental health challenges, social isolation, and substance abuse. Men in the U.S. die by suicide nearly four times more often than women, with middle-aged white men being particularly at risk. They are less likely to seek help for mental health issues due to societal stigma, leading to underreported and untreated conditions.
Many men don’t feel like they have a place in the world right now unless they’re hyper-masculine and support leaders who project strength and ego over compassion and understanding. My hypothesis is that we can create a community of like-minded men who call their moms every day, we can help them feel seen while spreading light in the world.
While men are my focus, this cause is for everyone. I encourage every person — if you’re lucky enough to have your mom in your life, or someone else you can talk to (My Official Mentor — M.O.M.) —to call them …

When I started calling my mom, I didn’t know what to say at first. I would call my parents once a week or so, but it was all about anybody else but them. How are my cousins doing? What’s going on with my job? The goal wasn’t to gain an understanding of who my parents were.
Like many of us, I learned about my own dad’s life when he died. Here’s the obituary I wrote to honor his life: LINK
You don’t have to cover all the questions on the first call. Learn about your mom’s life. That’s a great place to start.
The only thing you MUST do is, call your mom …
